On October 2, 1967, on the campus of the University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain, St. Josemaria Escriva preached a now historic homily titled Passionately Loving the World. In it he summarized the universal call to holiness - a call open to all men and women who desire to serve God and all humanity through their work and daily activities in the middle of the world:
"Everyday life is the true setting for your lives as Christians... God is calling you to serve him in and from the ordinary, secular and civil activities of human life. He waits for us every day, in the laboratory, in the operating room, in the army barracks, in the university chair, in the factory, in the workshop, in the fields, in the home and in all the immense panorama of work. Understand this well: there is something holy, something divine hidden in the most ordinary situations, and it is up to each one of you to discover it."
- St. Josemaria Escriva
But what does this look like in real life, in our time, in our country?
In April 2006, the St. Josemaria Institute released the short documentary film Passionately Loving the World precisely to answer this question.
The award-winning documentary captures the lives of nine individuals from across the United States who have been inspired by St. Josemaria's teachings and have chosen to respond to the universal call to holiness.
Through a series of candid interviews, these individuals share their personal stories with us, from the small details of their day to the significant moments in their lives. They share these moments with us in light of how the spirituality of St. Josemaria challenges them to constantly embrace with confidence and with love those often joyful but also painful moments that God allows.
Discover what motivates these men and women to transform profound challenges, or just ordinary life, into opportunities to grow, serve, and love.
Be inspired to seek the divine; to unlock the potential; and to cherish the reward of doing God's will in every detail and moment of your life.
