Introduction
Molly is a recent graduate of the University
of California at Berkeley living in the Bay
Area. Always quick to laugh, she enjoys hanging
out with her friends and sampling the regions
more economical wines. Despite her upbeat demeanor,
Molly is coming to the end of one of toughest
years of her life; a year in which her mother
passed away at the age of 49. In coping with
the loss Molly has turned to her family and
the spirituality of St. Josemaria for support.
How did you meet the spirituality of
St. Josemaria?
I was first really struck by the teachings of
St. Josemaria at a girl’s camp run by
some women of Opus Dei. The camp was great,
I loved it mostly because of the girls I met
but also for the daily activities; we did everything
from sports to creative writing. We’d
talk about the virtue of fortitude or the virtue
of friendship. It was the first time I considered
the deeper meaning of all those things. It helped
me realize that there were other girls my age
who had fun and knew how to laugh but who were
also trying to live well: to be good friends
and good sisters and good daughters.
How has St. Josemaria’s spirituality
helped you see life differently?
St. Josemaria used to talk about the idea that
wherever you are, whatever you’re doing,
you’re there for a reason…and you
get to find out what that is.
How have you managed to keep smiling
despite the recent tragedy in your family?
I struggle everyday, and some days are better
than others. And that's one of the reasons I
need to go to the Opus Dei classes. And I need
to talk to the spiritual advisor, somebody who
knows me and helps me along on a consistent
basis.
It's not always roses…but a lot of times
with St. Josemaria I think of that call to holiness
and I also read that as the universal call to
happiness.
