“We should never lose sight of the goal which we have to reach, namely, that each one of us must become identified with Jesus Christ, who...became poor for you and for me, and suffered, that we might have an example of how to follow in his footsteps.”
- St. Josemaria Escriva
Friends of God, 110
On February 14, we remember two important events from the life of St. Josemaria Escriva—the day God showed him that women and priests would also be members in Opus Dei, the institution that he founded.
“Two topics of capital importance: the women and the priests.”
- St. Josemaria Escriva
The Founder of Opus Dei, vol. II; 420
In February 2012, the Executive Director of St. Josemaria Institute, Elia Rivera, was interviewed by the web-editors of the St. Josemaria information website in Rome. In the interview, she answers "10 Questions about the St. Josemaria Institute" and explains the mission and goals of this young non-profit organization in the United States.
“Humility leads us as it were by the hand to treat our neighbor in the best way possible, that is, being understanding towards everyone, living at peace with everyone, forgiving everyone; never creating divisions or barriers; and behaving — always! — as instruments that foster unity.” (Friends of God, 233)
“For the joy which comes from forgetting ourselves is the best proof of love.” (Christ is Passing By, 19)
-St. Josemaria Escriva
The St. Josemaria Institute is starting off the New Year 2012 with a fresh new look online with our newly redesigned website!
"We must give what we receive, we must teach what we learn...Your work should be done well, mindful of others' needs, taking advantage of all advances in technology and culture. Such work fulfills a very important function and is useful to the whole of humanity..."
- St. Josemaria Escriva, Christ is Passing By, 166
Praying 15 Days with St. Josemaria Escriva is an inspirational book by Fr. Guillaume Derville with a daily Scripture passage and reflection that invites us to meditate on the life of Christ and our own life—offering us an opportunity to ask Christ to help us set the best resolutions for the New Year, and to commit to them with renewed passion and energy.
"You shouldn't be so easy on yourself. Don't wait until the New Year to make your resolutions. Every day is a good day to make good decisions."
- St. Josemaria Escriva, The Forge, 163
The Board and Staff of the St. Josemaria Institute wish you, your family, and friends a blessed and joyful Christmas! May your days be filled with God's light and grace.
As we are thrust into this busy time of year, we begin to feel a sense of anticipation and a deep sense of hope.
We encourage you take a few minutes today to think about what you can do each day, from now until Christmas, to prepare for the Nativity of Jesus. We share with you a short reflection to help in your Advent prayer.
The Novena for a Happy and Faithful Marriage, a new publication by the St. Josemaria Institute, is inspired by St. Josemaria’s desire to help all married couples, and those preparing for marriage, to find meaning and encouragement in their supernatural calling, especially when facing inevitable difficulties and times of trial.
The booklet contains an introduction on how to pray the novena, daily reflections from “Marriage: A Christian Vocation” a homily by St. Josemaria, and the Prayer for the Family through the intercession of St. Josemaria.
"Living by Faith", a homily by St. Josemaria Escriva, is this month's reading selection at the St. Josemaria Institute. The homily is a helpful guide during these days when we are asked through faith to [especially] remember and pray for our deceased friends and family, and all souls. The homily is also fitting in preparation for the "Year of Faith" announced by Pope Benedict XVI that begins on October 11, 2012.
In 2006, the St. Josemaria Institute released the award-winning documentary Passionately Loving the World. Through a series of candid interviews, the documentary captures the lives of nine individuals from across the United States who have been inspired by St. Josemaria Escriva to respond to the universal call to holiness. Through their stories we see what that looks like in real life, in our time, and in our country.
"May you seek Christ, May you find Christ, May you love Christ." - St. Josemaria Escriva
